Glenn Chapplefield
I fell in love with designing and making through my journey in the wonderful world of skate shop retail.
For 22 years, I curated a visually stimulating, community-driven retail space — learning first-hand how thoughtful environments can affect people in a positive way. Seeing that connection between space, feeling and function helped shape my passion for creating and designing.
My work is inspired by the beauty of nature and led by materials. I’m drawn to the warmth and character of wood, the structure of plywood, and the layered history found in used skateboard decks. Often, a particular board, grain pattern, colour combination or surface will guide the direction of a piece.
The result is furniture and objects designed with feeling, function and presence.
I’ve just started out on my professional journey as a designer and maker, but I carry with me years of hands-on design experience — from designing and project-managing shop fits, to creating point-of-sale displays, shop furniture, and functional skateboard furniture for events and competitions.
My focus now is on developing regular furniture drops and studio products that can be remade and enjoyed by many, alongside special bespoke projects for people’s homes, businesses and creative spaces. These may take the form of one-off custom pieces, small runs, or carefully considered projects developed in collaboration with the client.
I’m interested in thoughtful work, made with care, attention to detail and time given properly to each project.
Beautiful designs for thoughtful spaces.
